Media Assignment-Preliminary Film
Planning
The planning of our film pretty much begun with us wanting to do a film with action type elements but with comedy as well. We decided on a plot of a child and a teacher, with the child attempting to steal some exam answers off the teacher's computer. We wrote up a shooting schedule, timeline and timeplan and prepared to shoot our clip the next day. Our initial draft looked decent, but it had a long way to go
The Filming
We did our filming in 2 hours. We tried to use lots of different shots and had to use the 180 degree rule and a few other shots, which we made sure we put in. After completing the filming we viewed the clips back, realising we needed to do a voiceover as the sound quality was very poor.
The Editing
Our editing began with us arranging the clips in the order we wanted. We quickly eliminated any poor clips we had and picked the best ones suitable for our final clip. We hadn't done the voiceover at this point as we wanted to show a draft to our target audience.
In the end we came up with this first draft.
After showing it to a few members of our target audience, they pointed out exactly what we were thinking. It needed a voiceover and needed a bit more polishing to make it a good clip.
We then went back to editing and made sure all the clips had a smooth transition, ironing out issues such as a clip which repeated itself. After this we created a voiceover to improve the sound quality.
We added this voiceover to the clips, however we made a big error soundwise, as we muted the general background noise so there was big gaps of silence.
The Showing+Feedback
After showing it to the class, it was clear the sound on our film had messed up, obviously something that I would make sure worked next time I did an assignment like this. We did get positive comments about the humour of the clip and I would definately try to implement that in my next piece, as comedy is my favourite type of film and tv show. Overall I think for our first time filming we did quite a good job and although there is quite a lot of room to improve on it is a solid start to go from.
